They Call Me Big Puppy      What's a doggy doing on a Siamese breeders site??? Other than providing tons of love and laughter, we brought Shah into our family for the love and companionship a cute, but rather large, puppy can provide. Shah is a Great Dane if you can not tell and it appears he is growing an inch a day. Shah comes from a nice knowledgeable breeder in the mountains of North Carolina. His parents have Champion blood lines and he is well qualified to be shown and/or put to stud, but we chose him to be just a loving, friendly family guy. These pictures are from his 7 week birthday on 8/21/08. Yes, 19 lbs and only 7 weeks old. I don't think my husband weighed that much at that age, and he was almost 11 lbs when born. So far, potty training is going great, and he even knows a couple tricks. Shah can sit and shake hands on command. We plan on getting him in school as soon as he gets his next shots. We want Shah to be a scholar in the manners department. The Vet's office is having a fit over how handsome and smart a Dane our Shah is becoming. We have noticed he picks up on things rapidly and has figured out how to "pet" the cats. This is another area we were thoroughly impressed with Shah. Shah has entered our house and lives with very, very little disruption. His calm demeanour has made the adjustment to a dog rather easy for our cats, kittens, and us. We hope when the current kittens leave to go to their new loving forever homes, this will make their transition easier if their new home has other pets. If you come by for a visit, you will probably find Mr. Shah lounging on his rather large pillow bed waiting to shake hands and have a seat on your foot.
Sincerely,

Mister "Shah"

8 Weeks Old

Shah is now fully house trained with only 5 "wee accidents". He now sleeps all night, which is a blessing. He goes on little walks in the evening to release some pent up energy. So far he is doing great. He still tries to pet the cats, but they are teaching him to be gentle. He has met several of our neighbours, played with the neighbourhood dogs (no leash law in the country unfortunately) and is the talk of the cul-de-sac. Once he gets his massive legs & paws moving, he loves to play with everyone. Although we limit his protein and etc, he still looks like he is growing half an inch a day. Right now he is about half the size of a full grown Lab. He is reluctant to go outside and get wet, but once he does he gets a little rowdy. Hope these hurricanes bypass our area.

What Missing Pig? Pigs Ear??

9 Weeks Old

Shah loves to play now. You can't tell from the photo, but he has collected a huge array of toys. His favourite is still the mallard duck we found at Wally-World. It is fun to watch him destroy pig's ears and other chew toys, but it is hilarious to watch the cats playing with them after he finishes. We have found he prefers a nibble of "crunchy" peanut butter for a reward when he has to go play in the kennel for a little while when all of us are busy doing homework, cooking, bathing or etc and he is demanding attention. Shah likes his kennel. It has a huge Igloo dog house with lots of padding, and the ground is covered in several inches of cedar chips. My husband says Shah thinks it is too nice to go potty in it. He waits till we let him out to do his business. He is still trying to figure out why my youngest daughter's long hair is not to play with, and she keep reminding him. Shah almost weighs as much as she does so it is a bit of a sibling rivalry on Shah's part I think. All in all he keeps us very entertained. Nothing says love like a puppy lick in the face right after he has drank a couple gallons of water.

All Grow'd Up

A Year And A Half Old

I would love to say it's been a breeze, but it has not. We awoke one morning to find Shah laying limp and unresponsive. Some mean person poisoned him during the night. We rolled Shah onto a blanket and loaded him into the Tahoe...with a little difficulty as he was 150 lbs at the time. The emergency vet is close to 30 minutes away, but we made it in under 15 minutes. They kept him for over 3 days. When we brought Shah home, he had lost almost 10 lbs. It took weeks to get his weight back up and for him to start acting normal again. My husband now jokes about Shah being twice as expensive as his truck...but I know he truly loves Shah.
I was looking for a playmate for Shah, but no one around here has a dog big enough to play with Shah. The breeder who sold us Shah had a puppy
Phantom who was not perfect and needed a good home. We brought Phantom into our and Shah's lives and have been overjoyed with how these two interact. Shah is the dominate male, but Phantom takes no bull from him. It is almost a 50/50 relationship. We will neuter Phantom when it is time, but are still toying with the idea of letting Shah make some beautiful puppies. Shah and Phantom have upgraded quarters to include a 16' x 27' covered enclosure to retreat into when it snows or rains. Inside the pen there is a heated dog house, 8' x 8' and 4 foot tall, with at least a foot of cedar shavings to make it comfortable. They like it so much, when the weather is not perfect, they won't come out unless it is feeding time.
